Ashtabula: Crews investigate cause of train derailment

ASHTABULA -- The Ashtabula Fire Department will continue to investigate the cause of a derailment while working to upright the cars.

Five cars of the train derailed around 11 p.m. Sunday night near W. 32nd Street and Lake Avenue.

Crews determined that one of the cars contained a hazardous material, one was empty, and three others contained solid waste.

No leaks were found but several area streets were blocked for precaution.

Lake Avenue reopened at 6 a.m. Monday morning, but will close again at some point Monday while crews place the hazardous material car back on the tracks.

W. 32nd Street and some other side streets remain closed while the scene is being cleared.

No injuries were reported.
