Fire damages Gladding Avenue home in AshtabulaBy: Star Beacon - Warren Dillaway ASHTABULA - - Smoke poured from the attic of an unoccupied Gladding Avenue home Saturday afternoon as firefighters arrived on the scene, according to an Ashtabula Fire Department report. A smoldering artificial Christmas tree was one of the items removed from the smoky basement of 1503 Gladding Avenue Saturday afternoon, reports show. The first floor and basement were filled with smoke as firefighters arrived around 2:38 p.m., reports show. "It was pretty well fully charged," said Ashtabula Fire Department Engineer Jeff Workman. The blaze was brought under control in 21 minutes, reports indicate. Firefighters remained on the scene for more than an hour ventilating the structure and clearing debris, Workman said. Reports indicate there was $15,000 damage to the property and $10,000 to the contents. The cause of the fire, and identity of the owner, were still under investigation late Saturday night. |
